Best VPN for Turkey (October 2026): Which Ones Work From Istanbul

Yes, using a VPN in Turkey is legal, but most VPN websites are blocked here. No law punishes people for using one; Turkey blocks VPN companies’ websites and some of their servers. In our tests from Istanbul, 8 of the 10 VPN websites we checked did not load, NordVPN, ExpressVPN and ProtonVPN among them. If you are already in Turkey, you need a VPN you can actually buy and set up from here. Our pick is Amnezia.

In Turkey and need a VPN?

Most VPN sites are blocked here. Amnezia’s works.

$3.30/mo2-year plan · 7 devices · 14-day money-back · checked 13 Oct 2026

Buy and set it up from Turkey, no other VPN needed. Connected on Turkish networks in our October test. Gets you Discord, Booking.com and throttled social media back.

Why most VPNs fail in Turkey

Turkey blocks VPN companies in waves: about 10 in December 2016, 16 more in December 2023, and around 27 more in August 2024 during the Instagram block. The block hits the company’s website first. That causes two problems for a visitor:

• You cannot buy or sign up from here. If the website does not load, you cannot create an account, pay or download a desktop app.
• You cannot renew or fix it from here. If your subscription lapses or the app logs you out, you need the website again.

A VPN installed and logged in before you fly can still work. But if you are reading this from a Turkish connection, that option is gone.

Which VPN websites load from Turkey

Our own test from a Turkish connection. “Unreachable” means the site never answered; “blocked” means the network cut the connection.

Why Amnezia

• Its website loads from Turkey. amnezia.org loaded in 514 of 517 OONI measurements from Turkish networks between 1 September and 13 October 2026. If your network is the exception, the mirror link above opens the same store.
• It is built to get past VPN blocking. Amnezia uses its own protocol, AmneziaWG, which is designed to be hard for networks to detect and block.
• It connected in our test. We tested the app on Turkish networks in October 2026.
• It is cheap and easy to pay for. International cards or crypto, 7 devices on one plan, and a 14-day money-back guarantee.

Plan	Price	Per month
6 months	$30	$5.00
1 year	$50	$4.10
2 years	$80	$3.30

Does NordVPN work in Turkey?

Its website does not. nordvpn.com was unreachable from a Turkish connection on 10 September and again on 1 October 2026. The same goes for ExpressVPN, ProtonVPN, Private Internet Access, PureVPN and hide.me. If you already have one of these installed and logged in, it may still connect. If not, you cannot buy it from here without another VPN, which is the problem you are trying to solve.

How to set it up in Turkey

1. Open Amnezia Premium (or the mirror link if it does not load) and pick a plan.
2. Pay by card or crypto and download the Amnezia VPN app for your phone or laptop.
3. Sign in, connect, and check that a blocked site such as Discord opens.

Set it up on every device you travel with while you are on good WiFi, not when you suddenly need it.

What a VPN does and does not fix

• Fixes: blocked sites and apps (Discord, Roblox, some crypto exchanges), Booking.com hotel searches inside Turkey, and social media during a throttling.
• Does not fix: a slow connection or no data. If you need mobile data, see our eSIM guide: Simbye’s store also works from inside Turkey.

Using a VPN is legal in Turkey. The full list of what is blocked, with dates, is in What is blocked in Turkey.
