Galata Tower Tickets 2026: €30, Hours, Müzekart, and When to Go

Official rules Updated · Last checked · reviewed by Nomad Istanbul editorial team

Galata Tower charges foreign visitors €30 and is open 08:30 to 23:00, last entry 22:00. Müzekart works by day. Booth or online, the best time to go, and what the view is worth. Checked 2 Oct 2026.

Short version: €30 at the booth, open every day 08:30 to 23:00, last entry 22:00. The queue, not the ticket, is the problem: go at opening or after 21:00, not at sunset. Online tickets cost about $45 and skip only the ticket booth, not the security and lift queue, so most people should just pay at the door. Turkish citizens and residents with a Müzekart enter free by day.

Price and who pays

TicketPriceNotes

Müzekart holder, day (08:30–18:30)FreeCitizens’ Müzekart 200 TL a year; residents’ Müzekart 99, 750 TL
Müzekart holder, night (18:30–23:00)200 TLNight museum ticket on top of the card
Museum Pass IstanbulIncluded€105 for 5 days, Ministry of Culture pass

The tower is a Ministry of Culture museum, so it follows the Ministry’s two-tier pricing: euros for foreign visitors, the Müzekart for people who live here. A resident with a permit pays €30 like a tourist unless they buy the Müzekart 99. How this compares with Topkapı and Dolmabahçe is in our foreigner prices report.

Hours and the best time

  • Every day, 08:30 to 23:00. Last entry 22:00.
  • Day session to 18:30, night session from 18:30. Ticket sellers note a pause in entry around 18:15 to 19:00 for the staff shift change.
  • Best: 08:30, when you walk in and the light over the old city is clean. Second best: after 21:00 for the lights, when the sunset crowd has gone.
  • Worst: the hour before sunset, every day of the year.

Inside, a lift takes you most of the way up; the last floors are stairs. The visit takes 45 minutes to an hour. The balcony is narrow and one-way, so you circle the tower once.

Booth or online?

At the booth: €30, paid by card. Fine at opening and late evening.

Online: the tickets on GetYourGuide cost about $45 to $47 with an audio guide app, and skip only the ticket booth. You still queue for security and the lift with everyone else. That is why none of them scores above 4.5 (the most-booked, by Istanbul E-pass, is 4.5 from 1,431 reviews on 2 October 2026), below our 4.6 bar for any recommendation. We don’t link them.

If you want a guide: Galata on foot

The tower makes more sense with the neighbourhood around it (and the other big view, Maiden’s Tower, is a short boat ride from Karaköy): the Genoese walls, the Camondo Steps, the old banks of Karaköy and İstiklal Street above.

Near the tower

  • Galata Mevlevi Lodge, 5 minutes up the hill: a Ministry museum and the city’s oldest Mevlevi lodge, founded in 1491. Müzekart and Museum Pass work here too.
  • A real dervish ceremony: Kasımpaşa Mevlevihanesi holds one on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at 17:00, about 15 minutes’ walk away. See our whirling dervish guide.
  • A photoshoot with the tower or the Old Town as the background: see our Istanbul photoshoot comparison for prices and which one to book.
  • Karaköy below the tower is the best place in the old centre for breakfast and baklava; our food tour guide covers where to eat.

Getting there

Tram T1 to Karaköy and walk up 10 minutes, or the Tünel funicular from Karaköy to İstiklal and walk down 5 minutes. From Taksim, walk the length of İstiklal Street, about 25 minutes.

Prices and hours are from the tower’s own site, checked on 2 October 2026; the Ministry changes euro prices from time to time, so check the official page before you go.
