Official rules Updated · Last checked · reviewed by Nomad Istanbul editorial team

Istanbul's best-rated food tours cross to Kadıköy by ferry: My Local Guide (4.9 from 877 reviews) and Yummy Istanbul (4.9 from 1,396). What you eat, what it costs, and a DIY route. Checked 2 Oct 2026.

Short version: the two best-rated food tours in Istanbul are close to identical in shape. Both start near the Spice Bazaar, cross to Kadıköy on the public ferry, eat their way through the market and Moda, and cap the group at 10. My Local Guide is 4.9 from 877 reviews, 6 hours, from about $108. Yummy Istanbul is 4.9 from 1,396 reviews, 5.5 hours, from about $141. Come hungry: either one replaces breakfast and lunch.

Pick My Local Guide for the lower price and a route that ends back on the European side in Karaköy. Pick Yummy Istanbul if you want the longer sit-down breakfast and the bigger review count. Prices are GetYourGuide’s on 2 October 2026, converted from lira at 48.97 TL per dollar; sales move them by 20% either way.

What you will eat

  • Kahvaltı, the Turkish breakfast: cheeses, olives, honey with kaymak (clotted cream), menemen, simit.
  • Midye dolma, mussels stuffed with spiced rice, eaten standing at a cart with lemon.
  • İskender kebap: thin döner over pide, tomato sauce, yoghurt and browned butter poured at the table.
  • Balık ekmek, the fish sandwich, by the water.
  • Künefe or baklava, and stretchy dondurma ice cream.
  • Turkish coffee, cooked in a copper cezve.

Do it yourself

The tours charge for the guide and the ordering. The route itself is easy:

  1. Breakfast in Karaköy or at a dairy shop near the Spice Bazaar (simit, kaymak, honey).
  2. Ferry to Kadıköy from Eminönü or Karaköy, 20 minutes, one Istanbulkart tap (46.20 TL).
  3. Kadıköy market streets around Güneşlibahçe Sokak: mussels, pickles, cheese, lahmacun.
  4. Lunch at a lokanta in the market; walk on to Moda for dessert and ice cream.
  5. Ferry back at sunset.

Budget roughly 1,500 to 2,500 TL for food, depending on how much you eat. What you miss is the guide’s ordering and the stories behind each stop.

Good to know

  • Wear walking shoes. Reviewers count 15,000 steps or more.
  • Skip breakfast. Both tours start with a big one.
  • Tipping your guide is customary but not included.
  • Fridays and Saturdays book out first in summer.

Seeing more of the city by water? Our Bosphorus cruise comparison covers the sunset boats. Galata is a short walk from where the tours end; see Galata Tower tickets.
