O2 Roaming in Turkey (2026): £7 a Day, or Cheaper

Official rules Updated · Last checked · reviewed by Nomad Istanbul editorial team

Turkey isn't in O2's Europe Zone. Unless you're on Ultimate, the Travel Bolt On is £7 a day (£49 a week). A 20 GB eSIM is about £12. Checked 13 Oct 2026.

O2 roaming in Turkey costs £7 a day with the Travel Bolt On (unlimited calls, texts and data, charged only on days you use your phone), free on Ultimate Plans, checked on O2’s own site on 13 October 2026. A cheaper option: a 20 GB Simbye eSIM is about £12 for 30 days, see the best eSIM for Turkey or all UK networks compared.

Short answer: Turkey isn’t in O2’s Europe Zone, so your normal roaming doesn’t cover it. Unless you’re on an O2 Ultimate Plan, use the O2 Travel Bolt On: £7 for each day you use your phone, with unlimited calls, texts and data. A week costs £49 and two weeks £98 (o2.co.uk, checked 13 October 2026). A 20 GB travel eSIM for the same trip costs about £12 (see our best eSIM for Turkey in 2026).

Which O2 plan are you on?

O2 has three zones, and Turkey is only in the biggest one. This is where the confusion comes from.

eSIM prices are Simbye’s checkout prices in dollars, converted at the European Central Bank rate on 16 October 2026 (£0.750 per $1); your card’s rate may differ slightly. O2 Travel gives unlimited data and keeps your O2 number working normally, which is worth something on a short trip. Over a week, the eSIM saves you about £37, and over two weeks about £86.

Heavy user? Simbye’s unlimited 30-day plan is $42.50 with code NOMADISTAN15 (about £32, affiliate link), still less than a week of O2 Travel. More options in our unlimited data eSIM comparison. Compare every option in our best eSIM for Turkey guide.

How O2 Travel charges you

  • Free to add, £7 on the days you use it. O2 charges you on any day you use data, make a call or send a text in Turkey.
  • Unlimited minutes, texts and data in Turkey, plus calls back to the UK. Calls to other countries are charged at standard roaming rates.
  • Add it before you go in My O2 under Bolt Ons. O2 says it can take up to 24 hours to apply. You also get a link by text when you land.
  • Without it, you pay O2’s standard roaming rates for Turkey.

How to set up your O2 phone for Turkey

  1. Check your plan in My O2. If you’re on an Ultimate Plan, Turkey is already covered.
  2. Using O2 Travel? Add the Bolt On at least a day before you fly, and turn on data roaming.
  3. Using an eSIM instead? Install it at home on Wi-Fi and set it as your mobile data line. Turn data roaming off on the O2 line, because one stray data session would trigger the £7 daily charge.
  4. Need your O2 number for bank codes? Keep the line on, but remember that any call or text you send counts as a day of O2 Travel.

Buy the eSIM before you fly

Turkey’s telecom regulator (BTK) has blocked about 37 eSIM stores, including Airalo and Holafly. Their apps and websites don’t load on Turkish networks, so you can’t buy or top up from there. Simbye’s store still loads from Turkey, but the safest plan is to buy and install any eSIM at home and check it shows a network before you leave. The full story is in our Turkey eSIM block guide.
